ADMS could not find Data Management Services on 127.0.0.1

I'm setting up Vault Manufacturing 2010 on a new server (old server is having hardware issues).  The server OS is Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 32bit.

Everything installed properly and I did a restore from the old server's backup.  However, when I go to Tools > Administration on the ADMS console, I get this error:

Autodesk Data Management Console could not find Data Management Services on 127.0.0.1.

Clients cannot log in either.  They can see the Vault in the server, however authentication doesn't work.

Firewall is OFF on the server and there is no AV software installed yet.

Thanks.

I have a client with the exact same problem that started after a power outage.  Vault had been set up and working fine, now they are having the same problems mentioned in the earlier post.  Any ideas would be helpful.

Directly on the server, are you able to browse to:

http://Localhost

http://127.0.0.1

http://Localhost/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

http://127.0.0.1/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

Also, do you have any proxy settings enabled inside of Internet Explorer?  (Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings ->)  If there is a proxy enabled, please set an exclution for the Vault Server - also remove the check box for Automatically Detect settings if that is enabled.

We never did discern what the true problem was.  My guys just decided to uninstall both ADMS and IIS and then do a reinstall and a restore from backup.  That took care of the problem, but we still don't know what the root of the issue was.  Thanks for the responses,  it's reassuring to know that there are peers willing to lend a hand when you need it.

Cheers,

If you can get to http://localhost/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx without any trouble, can you do the same from a different machine (substituting the server hostname for "localhost" of course). If you get an error, my first guess would be that there is a firewall on the server machine that is blocking port 80.

Hi,

Sorry to drag up an older thread, but this has started occuring at our workplace also.  It was working fine, and then we had an unexpected power outage, then since coming back online it is coming up with the same error as posted above.

We can get to Localhost on the server PC, but cannot access the SecurityService.asmx file as specified above.  Also, there is no firewall on this server and no proxies are setup either.

Any other things we can try?

Thanks

On your server, are you able to open any of the IIS pages?

http://Localhost (should show either the IIS7 welcome screen or an UnderConstruction window)

http://127.0.0.1 (should show either the IIS7 welcome screen or an UnderConstruction window)

Do the Vault ASP pages process correctly?

http://Localhost/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

http://127.0.0.1/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

If they do not, please make sure that "Show Friendly HTTP Errors" is disabled inside of Internet Explorer (Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced) and upload an image or a copy paste of the error listed at the bottom - it may be referring to a temporary folder permission issue.

Also, make sure the SQL Server instance is started automatically when the machine is rebooted. You can check this in the "SQL Server Configuration Manager" under "SQL Server Services".  Make sure "SQL Server (AUTODESKVAULT)" is in the running state and it's start mode is set to automatic.

Thanks for those suggestions but neither one worked.

http://LocalHost - Gave me the IIS welcome screen

http://127.0.0.1 - goes to a user login screen (a windows ones), putting in a usr/pwd doesn't do anything, and cancelling leads to a login in fail screen

htttp://Localhost/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx (and the 127.0.0.1) both lead to IE cannot display page screens.  As an aside i added a HTML file to the AutodeskDM and Services Directories and i can access those pages from the server and from external pcs, so it would appear IIS is working correctly.  Turning off the "Show Friendly HTTP errors" made no difference.

"SQL Server (AUTODESKVAULT)" is up and running and set to automatic.

Looking through the ADMSConsoleLog file, the following errors appear at the time i am trying to access the administration information in ADMS.

24/05/2011 6:28:42 AM System.Net.WebException: Autodesk Data Management Server Console 2011 could not find the Data Management Services on 127.0.0.1. ---> System.Net.WebException: There was an error downloading 'http://127.0.0.1/AutodeskDM/Services/InformationService.asmx'. ---> System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly.

I think there is a user/pwd issue somewhere, but i have no idea where and don't understand why a power failure would cuase this issue.  (This has happened previously, and the only way we were able to fix it was to doa  full reinstall of windows and ADMS, not something i want to through everytime this happens.)

EDIT: Trying to access those directories from another PC (on the same network), gets me a "Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed." error.  And if i try to access the SecurityServices.asmx file, i get a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error.  But i can access the webpages i have inserted into various directories.

Thanks

I'm guessing there is either an IIS configuration issue, or a permissions issue.

I think there is a "diagnostic" tool of sorts installed with the server, which goes thru many of the same things that the installer "pre-checks" do.

If the diagnostics don't tell us anything, a repair install of the server might be in order.  During the install was there a virus checker running?  If so, disable it this time.

We eventually worked out what was causing our problems.  It turns out our corporate IT people had changed our domain server from a local one to one back in the states with some different settings.  This was causing all our issues.  Once our IT guy changed some of our local settings to reuse the lcoal domain server for the vault server, it all started to work fine again.

I can get specific details for you if you would like.  But not sure if this will help with your problem.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I shoudl also mention I got it to work about 30 minutes after i posted on here. Here is a loose explanation of how it happened (its copied from an e-mail i sent to my reseller):

"On the upside i can now log into the server, well almost, it can find the server now, but i just need to install the license. So cheers for your help. I will have a bit more of a play and see if i can rule out the port 80 shenanigans.

Yesterday when i tried to log on I got the original message "Autodesk Vault 2012 could not find the Data Management Services on servername" and so i tried http://127.0.0.1/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx and it didn't work i got the 404 message. Today I added the inbound Port 80 fully open rule and typed in 127... and selected the pre-populated address ( http://127.0.0.1/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx%EF%BB%BF%EF%BB%BF ) and got the 404 error. I went into SQL Server configuration manager and checked out a few things. I think its odd the SQL Server Agent (AUTODESKVAULT) service is alwasy disabled and cant be enabled. Anyway I went into SQL server network configurations> protocols for AUTODESKVAULT and enabled TCP/IP then tried the http://127.0.0.1/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx link again, but i removed all the %EF%BB%BF%EF%BB%BF crap at the end and it worked. I went back into protocols for AUTODESKVAULT again and disabled TCP/IP but it still worked.

I have no idea what fixed it. Because i reinstalled vault server as well before messing around with the SQL stuff along with the Port 80 rule. But i know it wasn't working when i originally copy & pasted the correct securityservice url (the other day). I might go and remove that port 80 rule and see if it stops working."

Scott,

The changes made in SQL should not have any effect on that dialog / result from browsing to http://127.0.0.1/AutodeskDM/.../....asmx file.  That is all driven by IIS.

I recall some cases in the past where group policy changes / security zones in IE caused some stange behavior (using http://localhost DID work, but http://127.0.0.1 did not).

Long story short, glad it is working now.

7/8/2012 9:50:44 PM System.Net.WebException: Autodesk Data Management Server Console 2013 could not find the Data Management Services on 127.0.0.1. ---> System.Net.WebException: There was an error downloading 'http://127.0.0.1:8081/AutodeskDM/Services/InformationService.asmx'. ---> System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8081

If you are able to open the http://127.0.0.1/AutodeskDM/Services/InformationService.asmx page but unable to open administration page in ADMS try

Open your console log and try to open TOOLS/ADMINISTRATION again.. you will see log entry stating the error check if the port it is trying to connect through. Mine was 8081 and it was not configured on IIS.

To fix it try binding this port in the IIS Manager. Hope this helps..

This appears to be one of our most viewed and searched for forum threads. It also has no accepted solution.

We actually have an article that links to the most common solutions to this issue.

Error: "Could not find the Data Management Services" appears within Vault

So, if you are reading this and do not find the solution in this thread, please check out the link.

The solution that worked for me on my vault installation was to review the Site Bindings on the IIS server.  In my case, it was working fine with Port 80 (http) but then throwing the error when I tried using port 443 (https) with a validated certificate.

The screen shot I include here shows what my site bindings look like.  The https binding has a certificate included, but otherwise everything is blank.  Once this change was made, it worked perfectly with the correct URL for the web client and the desktop Vault client.
