I have a hitist of questions. I've tried to find answers, but either the
information is too vague, not there, or I missed it. For all questions,
assume that I have 5 clients running IV and a central server that holds all
the files.
1. Am I correct that ADMS is required for CC and/or Vault in a shared
setting?
JP: Yes
2. Is Vault necessary to use CC in a shared setting?
JP: No; just ADMS
3. Where are part files, assembly files, drawing files, etc. stored when
using Vault? Can they be on a seperate, shared server apart from Vault?
JP: They can be, though it's not as straightforward to administer. This is
known as a "Remote Filestore" situation in the "Advanced Configuration
Guide."
4. Can CC be on a seperate, shared server from Vault?
JP: In Inventor 10/ADMS4, yes. However, in Inventor 11/ADMS5, they cannot.
This is because of the "single sign-on" facility within Inventor.
5. The recommended system requirements for ADMS are listed as 2 GHz, 60 GB
HD, and 1+ GB RAM. Is this assuming you're installing CC and Vault? If you
don't use CC, are the system requirements much less? i.e. how much space
does ADMS, Vault, and CC take up individually from eachother?
JP: That's a hard question to answer, given the way that SQL Server and
other components (.NET) utilize resources. They basically grow until the
system gets tight on resources (the more the better, you know!), and then
start giving it back. Some editions of SQL Server limit how much memory they
will use; in that scenario, having both CC and Vault on the server wouldn't
really result in any extra memory being utilized by SQL Server to provide
both sets of data.
Thank you for any response you can give me.
