Does anyone have any ideas about dealing with the yearly releases of Vault? What I am referring to is, we bought a dedicated server for vault 2007. Then 2008 comes out, now what? Do we buy another server?
This is what we did and it was a mistake. We tried the 2007 to 2008 upgrade and all the 2007 projects became corrupted. We have had two crews here day and night trying to clean up the files so we could get our projects out the door. So what are we to do next year?
Virtulization is an option, but Microsoft is being a bit flaky about the licensing. As I understand it, for every VM you have to have a License, unless you are on their select program. Also virtulization means more computers to update and manage. By 2010, there will be one virtulization for 2007, 2008,2009, and 2010! That computer is going to have to have alot of ram, and a quad core wouldn't hurt either.
So we have hardware costs and software costs. If vault could set up a separate web service for each version this may allow for multiple versions on the same computer. You would have to tell each one which database it could access, but that should not be too hard to do.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
