Hello
I need to make a 3d model from 2d plans. I really don't know if there is any autodesk product that can do this. What to do?
What, if any, Autodesk products do you currently have on hand and what is your line of work - Architecture, construction, etc?
What type of plans? Do you have a CAD file or just paper? What will the Model be used for? Most importantly - Do you know what the elevation and/or height of everything is?

Google Sketchup (the free version) is a good place to start for a beginner IMHO: if you need to do more after that it will become pretty obvious after your model's creation then you can come back with detailed questions about your additional needs.
I am not sure if this Google programme will be enough to prepare a model that would be usable in Ansys Fluent...
Hi margomichalak,
The information you've provided so far is still pretty vague, but it sounds like you'll want to try a mechanical design software such as Autodesk Inventor for building your glider. You can download a 30 day trial:

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

I just saw in Shaan Hurley's blog Between the Lines that the 2D to 3D tool for Inventor on Autodesk Labs was one of the top 10 for 2012!

Might be just what you are looking for!
so I tried Inventor. it took me almost 10GB, but computer decided that it was not installed. I don't know, maybe its too weak to deal with such programme. so I came back to the beginning.
did someone used CATIA V5? I got an information that it could work, but I'm not sure how. is that some kind of AutoCAD plugin or totally separate programme? if AutoCAD doesn't create 3d model prom plans, is CATIA something like mentioned 2dto3d addon for Inventor?

Catia is a different CAD program altogether, it is not a addon for any product.
How much "power" does your computer have? For large models you will need a ton of RAM, a really good processor (3.3 GHz neighborhood) and a wicked good video card. You can try reducing by using Level of Detail to knock down some of the memory need.
Catia V5 is a monster of its own! Not a fan for sure!! We have it in house and are getting rid of it.
I am aware that it is huge. I have Dual Core 2GH, 3GB RAM, it's a bit old ( 4 years). I am also afraid that there won't be enough space (I can provide only 8gb on main partition). Inventor took almost all of this space. it's a horror, I need the proper program for less than one day 😕
Hi margomichalak,
You might try this one:
I hope this helps.
