Welcome to a new year!

Welcome to 2013! How was your holiday break (if you were able to take one)?

I won't ask about resolutions, because...well, we all know how those tend to go. But, is there any goal you're really hoping to reach this year? A project you're looking forward to wrapping up?

Happy New Year!

The break was good. I made 2 - 4 day weekends out of it. Things were nice and quiet.

Professionally: We have 5 bridges that need replacement. 2 were taken by Hurricane Irene. Those 2 are being done with County funds and will be (at least) started in the coming construction season. The others are relying on State and Federal funds. So who knows when they might go. One was just delayed because the Feds didn't like our agreement with the gas transmission company the crossed the road at the beginning of the bridge.

Personally: Just the normal home improvement projects. Like finish putting in the heat or something.

I'd like to take a vacation this year. I did take time off in 2012. But it was all long weekends. I'm not complaining because in 2011 our nephew got married. He lives near Seattle. So after the wedding we flew to Montana and spent 10 days visiting Yellowstone Park. We'd been there for a couple of days in 2009 when our niece was married but you can't see much in a couple of days.

I just found out that my favorite restaurant - brewery in Stowe VT. closed. So I probably wont go there. Although Stowe is nice in it's self.

Allen - If you ever make it just past Stowe to the White Mountains of NH, I can give you lots of great pointers on food (and breweries, lodging, ski areas, and more). Such a beautiful area, fantastic skiing, incredible food, and awesome people. It's worth a visit!

And yes, I am one seriously biased NH person. 😃

Hi Jillian,

I haven't been there for a few years, but I'm familiar with the White Mtns. I've camped in Franconia Notch (while the old man's face still surveyed the valley) and driven up Mt. Washington twice. I even went to school in Nashua!

Glad you mentioned it. That would be a good destination for a long weekend. I haven't skied in years and don't plan to again. But I love the mountains in the spring, summer or fall. Do you have any favorite places in the Franconia - Littleton area? I remember staying in a nice motel in Littleton. But can't remember what it was called.

PS. The wood stove that's heating my home came from West Lebanon NH.

Break was great. Our company shuts down for 10 days at Christmas every year. Took this years break to get my step-son's room painted. All official New England Patriots colors which he accented with a Fathead of Tom Brady. (painful for me as a Redskins fan, but he's a good kid and worth it)

Anxious to get finished with our Laser Scanning project we started last year. We are hoping to use it to reduce costs while shipchecking (I am a shipbuilder) outside the country.
