It seemed to be the upper deck that made the difference in my mind. But don't go there. It's a scary place.

I suppose sitting on the top of the back seat of a convertable with your feet on the seat might be the exusive ON.

There's an oldies song that I've heard MANY times about dropping a letter in the mail and it "came right back to me the very next day".  That would involve dropping it in the mail, having the mail carrier pick it up, take it to the distribution center for sorting, someone else delivering it to the recipient, the recipient refusing it, the mail carrier returning it to the distribution center for sorting and the mail carrier delivering it back to the sender -- all in the course of ONE DAY.

Even in today's world of next day air shipments, I don't see this happening.  But that song originated in what -- the FIFTIES?  Hmmmm

I seem to recall reading a novel set in England back in the 1890s or 1900s, and people expected to write a letter, post it in the morning, and receive a reply in the afternoon post.  Now that was service!  What else would you expect, back in the day of Jeeves et al?  Of course, the correspondents were probably just across town from each other; no air or steam power required.

What is it about this thread that makes me want to post logical explanations for everything I read?
Hmm....

In Dracula (the original novel) notes were written and given to the nearest "street urchin" who would run it to the recipients address and wait for a reply. For a penny or two of course. Early version of bike messengers.

Imagine the following on a road sign:  CHURCH DRIVE SLOW

Now does it say to drive slow because there's a church?  Or does it say to go slow because there's a church drive (like driveway)?

I would say that sign doesn't apply to me, because I am not a church.

You would have to have a gorm to know what one is.  :smileyvery-happy:
