Things that make you go, "Hmm."

Why do careless, carefree, and uncaring not mean the same thing?

Why do we park on a driveway and drive on a parkway?

If an orange tree was to be grown on an aircraft carrier, would it produce naval oranges?

It seemed to be the upper deck that made the difference in my mind. But don't go there. It's a scary place.

I suppose sitting on the top of the back seat of a convertable with your feet on the seat might be the exusive ON.

There's an oldies song that I've heard MANY times about dropping a letter in the mail and it "came right back to me the very next day".  That would involve dropping it in the mail, having the mail carrier pick it up, take it to the distribution center for sorting, someone else delivering it to the recipient, the recipient refusing it, the mail carrier returning it to the distribution center for sorting and the mail carrier delivering it back to the sender -- all in the course of ONE DAY.

Even in today's world of next day air shipments, I don't see this happening.  But that song originated in what -- the FIFTIES?  Hmmmm

I seem to recall reading a novel set in England back in the 1890s or 1900s, and people expected to write a letter, post it in the morning, and receive a reply in the afternoon post.  Now that was service!  What else would you expect, back in the day of Jeeves et al?  Of course, the correspondents were probably just across town from each other; no air or steam power required.

What is it about this thread that makes me want to post logical explanations for everything I read?
Hmm....

In Dracula (the original novel) notes were written and given to the nearest "street urchin" who would run it to the recipients address and wait for a reply. For a penny or two of course. Early version of bike messengers.

Imagine the following on a road sign:  CHURCH DRIVE SLOW

Now does it say to drive slow because there's a church?  Or does it say to go slow because there's a church drive (like driveway)?

I would say that sign doesn't apply to me, because I am not a church.

You would have to have a gorm to know what one is.  Smiley Very Happy

LOL  What an image that conjures up!  I've got a mental picture of a bunch of kids with arms sticking out of their sides (no shoulders) and moving extremely slowly.

Ahh -- he was a very funny man.  Now I'm gonna have to see if I can find some video clips of Carlan's routines.

Blind drive ahead. Do blind people really drive? and are they only allowed to drive in that area?

That goes along with braille at the drive up ATM.

Of course the Government (Hmm...) requires that.

Road sign:  DEER CROSSING

So that's the designated location for the deer to cross?  They tend to put them in some bad locations -- choose locations with less traffic!  Smiley Tongue

We had to do a Possum Crossing sigh once. We couldn't find a good silhouette of a Possum so we used a Rat. No one noticed! Smiley Very Happy

Is not a Possom just a big whitish Rat?

They look that way to me - just not a fuzzy.
