Wrap Body To Curved Surface

Hi all.

Quite new to Fusion 360 and 3D modelling in general. Hopefully this is a simple issue to resolve.

Essentially I'm trying to emboss the text (Likewise) into the cylinder around the bottom of object to the left. I'm guessing that I need to wrap the text body around the cylinder, then press-pull into it. Can't seem to get the wrapping to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Possibly also worth noting: the text was initially imported as a .svg file, which I then extruded to form a body to more easily adjust the scale and position of it.

You may be able to use the Project to Surface sketch tool (look in the Project fly out menu in the sketch menu). This tool is being discussed in the below thread as well.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

I am the originator of that referenced thread....Project to Surface just does not work for me with text reliably.  I have kind of given up on embossing / engraving until that functionality is addressed at some unknown time in the future, sadly.

Have you seen this youtube video?

It shows another approach that I'm not sure was mentioned in the previous thread.

Thanks! I had seen that, but I had a couple of issues with that approach:

-it seems like it is a workaround for the "Project to surface" command not working
-in the video example it works well when there is a cylinder that is easily created, but what if you are wrapping text around multiple faces of a sculpted body? I guess it would work the same, but the whole "create a new body that will crowd your timeline just to make an extrusion" seems like it is overkill....and if you are working on a complex model that new body might get in the way of doing other things, maybe?

...but my first bullet point is the salient one 🙂

Ok, I get how to project, or place embossed letters, bending them out of plane.  But how can I get these embossed letters wrapped around in plane.  Imagine embossed letters running around the flat face of a washer.

?

Thanks,

@nkloski Just noticed this app by @xiaodong_liang that may be useful (seee link below).

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-ideastation-request-a/extrude-emboss-text-along-a-cylinder-...

@brianriordan There's not a command available at this time to curve text or move it along a curve. This would be a good addition to the IdeaStation. Let us know if you add one. I'll give you a vote!

You may be able to work around this limitation with an application like Inkscape. I believe it can create curved text as well as wrap text along a curve. You can then export the text as an SVG file and insert that into Fusion 360.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
