Trouble on the Pattern on Path

Pattern_on_path_3dspiral.pngHello

I try to Pattern on path an object with a 3d spline spiral, the object seems to rotate at the "back" of the pattern.

Is there a way to avoid this rotation?

Many thanks and kindest regards

Ludo

Hi Ludo,

I came to know that this is a known limitation with the current algorithm. But we may have a fix soon. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for reporting!

Thanks,

Anand

I got around this by patterning untill I saw the divergence and started a new pattern on path picking up where the old one left off.  Worked great.  chains.png

Hello Michael

I tried your idea, but somehow it does not work for a helix projected on a conical face. Maybe if I could 'break' the helix in several parts and then restart the pattern at each segment, but had no success yet.

Anyway, there is a fix in the make I understood, so I will wait until then.

Many thanks and kindest regards

Ludo

Hey Ludo, appologies, this slipped off radar during the break. Are you still working on this project?  If so feel free to share the dataset. If you'd like, I'd be happy to take a crack at it.  Let me know.

Very Best,

Mike

Hello Mike,

Thanks for your reply.

No problem at all, hope you enjoyed your break.

Tried this again but the issue remains, apparently the fix did not make it in this update.

The pattern seems to 'flip' at certain points, I guess that it happens when a coordinate is changing polarity (+/-) or at least it looks a bit like that. 🙂

Kindest regards,

Ludo

Hi Ludo,

I see similar behavior as well. You should be able to complete the task though just by stopping the pattern where the misalignment occurs and starting a new pattern on path where the old one left off. Have you tried this? I've had great success with this technique.

Best!

Hello Mike,

The pattern starts to 'rotate' as of the first instance, the idea was that all of the instances would be oriented to the same vertical center axis, each one a bit lower of course.

Thanks for looking into this.

Best regards,

Ludo

Hello Mike,

I've tried to model (path-pattern) a spiral staircase and ran into the same issue, the instances "rotate".

Mr. Anand mentioned in one of his posts that a fix was on its way, is there any news available on that?

Many thanks and kindest regards,

Ludo

Hi Ludo,

The fix is not done yet from our side. As you would know, we are prioritizing lot of different requirements within a short time in order to deliver on user feedbacks. I will update this space once its clear the algorithm improvement is right and stable and which update it will be part of.

We understand your need and we will do our best.

Thanks,

Anand
