Join/Align Openbeam extrusions

I am trying to build something with Openbeam extrusions but am having a hard time aligning the plate holes with the extrusion slot.  I have looked at doing both assembly rigid joins and move alignments but the extrusion slot does not provide an immediate edge or surface to align with the plates holes.  I am looking for additional guidance or advanced tutorials that might explain more advanced techniques then what the basic tutorial show.

The beam and plate geometry files are available on thingiverse.

How would you assemble these components together?

Here is one way:

Parts must be separate components. Activate one Component and create a construction feature you can use as an alignment reference inside that component. This could be the center axis of a hole or rod, or a plane, or a point, etc. Position is up to you.  Do the same in the second component. Re-activate the base component.   So long as the features are inside the separate components you can select them, right click, and select the align command.   This lets you use a feature other than those selected by the program as an align point.
