Hollow out body

Trying to hollow out a body with several faces and keep getting the error "The body could not be repaired after deleting faces.  Try changing the selection, or use the Delete tool in the Patch workspace to delet geometry without repairing the gap." when running the shel command.  Suggestions?

Hello,

If you use 'Delete' from Model workspace then it will delete that face and heal the body to keep watertight.
If you use 'Delete' from Patch workspace then it will simply delete that face (without healing) and make that body open.

I think, you may want to use 'Delete' from Patch workspace to make it hollow body.

I'm not using the delete command. I'm trying to use the shell command to make a hollow body.

Can you please send snapshot of that part that you are trying to shell?

Tried deleting a couple faces in Patch.  That appears to work thanks.  Is there any way to choose the shell thickness while doing that?

Attached is a snapshot of what I was trying to hollow out.

Delete command is just deleting faces, it will not add any thickness. But, after Delete operation, you can use Thicken command to add thickness to hollow surface.

Thanks for snapshot, we will try to reproduce this case on our side to check Shell failure.

I have the same issue. Yesterday I shelled the orange part just fine. Today I can't shell anything. I want to shell the red part.

The errors are "Error: The operation would cause a large topology change. Try adjusting the values or changing the input geometry." or the one given by the author.

I did not delete any faces nor did I change something on the parts. I tried restarting Fusion 360 and rolling back the timeline, but I can not hollow anything.

Can I send you the file to investigate?

Does it work for a thinner shell thickness? You could share a public link of the design.

It worked with 0.5 mm, but I need at least 1.5mm.

I am having some difficulties with the public link. Can you try exporting a Fusion 360 archive file and uploading it here?

Just as a tip, the shell can fail around sharp bend. If it is possible, it may help to smooth out any surfaces with high curvature.

You could also split the body up into smaller section using the split command and re-shell to pinpoint which geometry may be causing the failure.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,

Found out that using an incongnito window in chrome allowed the download to work. Below is a screencast that demonstrates some of my findings. I hope it helps!

Thank you! This worked just fine.

I am having a similar issue - I have a solid body, and I can't seem to shell it or if I go into the Patch workspace and remove a face, I can't seem to thicken it or offset the faces.

If I select one surface-body face at a time for a thicken operation, it works up to a point then shows the same error.

No idea what about the body is causing this - any suggestions?
