Face highlighting in sketch mode and low resultion polylines

Hi,

when in sketch mode this highlightning of faces drives me crazy. Is there any way to come around this? Anything i can switch off to get rid of face highlighting and selection when i don't need it? I would expect this only to happen when in push/pull or similar functions.

Also the "virtual" lines that are created between those faces and are somhow low resultion completely disturb the sketching process. They're constantly in the way and i can't seem to do anything against them - well maybe i can but i don't know how 🙂

Again i've made a video to demonstrate http://screencast.com/t/MK7SSCFoooZz (please let me know if these videos are nonsense but i find it's often easier to show stuff in motion as only with screenshots or text only.

Hi Helmi74,

You can diasble highlighting faces if you disable the option 'Sketch Profiles' under 'Selection Filters' as shown in the attached image.

Hey thburn,

you're right. That works for me, too. To have a good selection/highlighting experience i have to disable them all and reenable only the sketch-* stuff without the profiles. Unfortunately this is still enabled when i leave sketch mode so i have to set it aain to be able to select other stuff.

I thought this had already worked smarter in the past - maybe that's just my perception.

Hi,

regarding the other small lines beneath the actual line I don't have any solution.

They appear also on my sketches but only if I zoom very closely to the face / line.

May the autodesk team has a solution here?

For the rough lines, have you tried playing with the Display Settings at all? For example does enabling Anti-Aliasing Effects help? What happens when you use a different Visual Style (e.g. Shaded, Shaded with Visible Edges, or Wireframe)?

Thanks,

Anti Aliasing in fact seems to help here - at least i cannot reproduce that now with Anti Aliasing enabled.

The Problem with display settings is that they get saved online in your account instead of a per Computer base and the computer in my workshop isn't that powerfuill so i need to switch this off, otherwise i would have to change it every time i change computers.

I already posted that a while ago and requested to save this locally (per computer) but i guess that hasn't been heard 🙂

Thanks anyway for pointing out, seems to be a display settings issue but still is not so smart for people with slower computers to have multiple lines showing up that aren't actually existing.

Hi,

I tested also further, AntiAliasing does not effect the appearance of the additional lines, as presented in the following video.
Those lines are only visible if you zoom very closely to small objects. The circles in the video have a diameter of 5 mm and 10 mm only.

Changing 'Selection dipslay type' under Preferences-->Graphics does also not really help. If it is set to normal then the outline appears more like a circle made out of line segments and not a smooth circle. Furtermore 'normal' makes the selction of face segments very slowly and lazy.

So the problem still exists even AntiAliasing is switched on or off.

what's even more interesting for me than the anti aliasing effect is that you see those lines far later than me. the loop on my video has a width of around 40mm. The corner with the ARC has a diameter of 6mm. The lines actually were really disturbing whil working with these lines effectively without zooming in endlessly.

Difference of course is you're on windows and i'm on a mac - most probably on both systems graphics are handled anyway different in Fusion360.

The "faceting" is most likely intended to improve performance. Using higher quality graphics settings should reduce the effect. I noticed in that video that you were using Direct X 9 in the Driver drop down in the preferences. I was wondering if you have Direct X 11 available as an option?

Hi Nathan,

while i understand the need to save performance it is annoying to work with. I think when zoomed in there should be a way to either hide these lines or smoothen them. It's completely annoying if there's an additional line next to your sketch line that basically represents the same function. Apart from that low resolution lines are ok of course but if you can't really work because that virtual line is always there hiding or disturbing your real sketch line that's difficult.

I'm on a mac and as far as i can see i have all graphic settings on the highest level. Anything special i can look out for?

Thanks!
