Often when editing a hole (in the modeling mode), such as changing the hole diameter, an error message appears:
No target component
The diameter can be changed on the screen, by typing a new diameter or pulling the diameter circle, but the OK button is greyed out, so the changes can Not be saved.
A related command, the move hole command, does work correctly.
Am I doing something wrong when editing a hole or is this a bug?
In the hole dialog, what options do you have selected for Extents? Does changing this option help?
Thanks,
The extent option is set to Distance.
Switching extent to To or All does Not help; same error message.
Do you see the red volume for the cut? With the distance extents selected, does dragging the arrow glyph to one side or the other make a difference? It sounds like the hole tool is not cutting through any solid from the error message.
Could you upload an archive file or share a public link of the design?
It may help to see what is going on. If you get the chance, perhaps you could make a screencast recording of the issue.

One can drag the arrow glyph but nothing changes.
Dragging the diameter glyph changes the diameter of a white circle.

A simple way to create the same error is to create a solid box in model mode, then create a hole through the box, and then edit the hole.
Thank you for the file, it was very helpful. The first thing I noticed when I opened up the file is the Capture Design History has been disabled. In this mode, the timeline is disabled. The timeline makes it very easy to understand the steps of how a file was constructed. In this instance, it is difficult to say exactly how the file got into the current state. Do you recall if you modeled the entire part in Direct Modeling mode with Capture Design History enabled or disabled? Is the design an older one?
One thing I'm curious about is do you alwasy work in Direct Modeling? If so, why do you prefer to disable Capture Design History?
I note that there is one component in the file (Component 2). If you expand component 2 and edit hole 2, that one works. While the other two holes (7 & 😎 display the error message when you edit them. Do you recall if there is any difference between how these holes were created?
Doing some simple testing, I was not able to reproduce the issue. Creating a Box Primitive with a Hole in Direct Modeling and toggling Design History on/off during this process, I wasn't able to come up with a workflow flow.
If you can shed any light on how to reproduce this issue from scratch, it would be really helpful! I have logged an incident for development to investigate this issue further. I will circle back with further information as it becomes available.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
I have never enabled or disabled Capture Design History. All the settings are default.
The file "XCS v381_tube deck long V2" was created by the command "save copy as" from a component "tube deck long" of another file.
The same problem has occured several times in the original file.
In fact, if the same hole is edited in the original file, the same error occurs.
As for the simple example: "component2", the hole can be edited if "XCS v381_tube deck long V2" is activated but Not if "component2" is activated.
Note that the hole in the long tube can Not be edited with local or top level activation, in the new file or the original file

did you read my last post #8 on the edit hole thread?
Shows how to re-create the edit hole error with the simple example.
I just wanted to let you know that this incident is currently being investigated for a possible cause and resolution. As soon as I have more information I will circle back and post in this thread. Please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.
Thanks,
I merged these posts to reduce confusion. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
