I've tried out the new copy component feature where the history of the component is also copied, which is a must have, but I am really confused with whats going on the history timeline. Where I used to have design history I now have none. There is a collapse toggle beside features which I thought were to collapse groups to save room on the timeline, but when I toggled one of them, my design history for that component just dissappeared, and I have no clue how to get it back. Please see the notes on the screenshots to see what I'm referring to.
This may be too simple but what is displayed in the time line depends on what component is active. If the top base component is acive then " I think" everything is visible in the timeline.
Are you able to attach the original file prior to the disappearance of the timeline? Unless you dissolve or delete a node there shouldn't be a reason the nodes disappear, since it sounds like you have already checked out the active node piece. If some of the nodes are being lost we want to make sure we understand what is happening so we can get it resolved.
Cheers,
I'm sorry that you are hitting so many road blocks. I haven't seen this issue myself. Can you describe the workflow that you have been using in this file? Is it something that I may be able to use to reproduce the problem?
There is a tips in the tips section of the forum that may help with how to access an older version.
Also, the cannot open local files warning is most likely caused by trying to open your archive file directly (e.g. double clicking on the file). You should use the upload command to open it in Fusion 360. See the below tip for more detail on this.
I also wanted to add some screen shots to this to show how the Active component can filter the Timeline:
VS.
At any point, did you toggle the Capture Design History?
Thanks,
Fusion 360 is a cloud based CAD product. You can make localized back-up files, and work from a local cache, but the data is stored in the cloud. For this reason, you need to first upload the file before you can open it in Fusion 360 or work from a local cache.
I've been trying to figure out the steps to reproduce this issue, but I'm not having much luck. See below:
I also tried this with the Set Two.f3d file that I have from another post, but no success so far. Is there anyway you could make a Screencast recording of the issue?
You can download and use Autodesk Screencast for free from the below website.

Thank you in advance for any insight you may have.

Hi Nathan,
I made a simple box and dropped it into a new design to start an assembly; as if I had this part before and am reusing it in a new project. I then copied this component and pasted it as "New" into the same design. I then modified that instance of the box. The original box had a group of it's features. When I collapsed it's toggle button, it's feature history disappeared. Also, the second box, on opening the design a second time, moved back to the origin, though when placed as a copy, I had moved it. Initial moves on placement should "stick" until formally mated to something.

As you can see from the screen cast, the first box's history is gone and now no longer editable.
Again, no luck copying and pasting the "Embed" code in to the HTML tab.
I was overlooking the Paste New command, entirely! Thank you for the Screencast, that cleared everything up.
Let me report this issue to development and I will reply with what I find out.
Thank you again for posting this and for your patience getting me to see the light!
Best Regards,
I wanted to let you know that it looks like there's a fix pending for this issue.
Thanks,
Please forgive the thread necromancy, but I'm having problems with disappearing features from history. Clicking and holding a history feature and slightly moving it, as if to drag it, causes the feature to disappear on release. This is true for extremely small movements that shouldn't change the position of the feature in the history (presuming that reordering operations is even a thing).
I have a part that is essentially ruined, and I'm afraid I'm going to have to go back and redesign the thing.

The item with the issues is "Body6." I deleted the component created from the body while trying to fix the history issues. The body is comprised of three extrusions total, but I can't seem to find any of those features in the history, and can't edit them.
I have another, more involved design that has the same issue, but it's more easily seen above.
The first thing I usually check in any design containing more than one component is whether there are sketches at the top level and what they do.
In this case there are too many, so I am going to refer you to Fusion 360's R.U.L.E #1 for some important reading material when it comes to efficiently working with Fusion 360.
In the meantime I'lll see if I can answer your actual question 😉
I have been working with fusion for a while but how to copy and paste is still a mystery to me.
for example I copy and paste the active object, but if I want to position the new component x and y inches to the lower right corner of the part below. How do I do that?
