converting a premade object from inches to mm

I went into the preferences both with an object loaded and then in dashboard to change the preferences to mm from inches which i did original designs in. However each time I pulled up the drawing it keeps measuring in inches and also exporting the STL in inches. Even with it saying inside preferences that the default units is 'mm' and the material unit display is 'metric'.

Is there a way to convert the objects unit of measurement and exports? Otherwise, i'll just have to remake one in mm's.

Hi Joe,

Would it be possible for you to capture this in a video?  I am not getting the same results with my model.  What software are you opening the .STL file with?  Does it have import settings?

My Steps:

1)  Start a design with inch units as my preference setting.

2)  Change the model units to mm

3)  Change the preference units to mm (not sure this makes a difference since it is for new designs)

4)  Closed the model and opened

5)  RMB on the body and selected "Save as STL"

Measuring still gave mm units

I checked the .STL model with Inventor.  Inventor needs to have the imported units defined or it will use the exported .STL bounding box and the Inventor template units to set the size.

Let me know if I missed something.

Thanks,

Andy

If my understanding is correctly, you are modifying the default units setting in the preferences of the application menu. See screenshots below for clarification.

If that is correct, these settings are intended to control the unit type that is selected when you start a new design. It is always possible to change the unit type; however, this must be while editing the design.

In the design's browser, if you hover over Units, you will see an edit icon appear to change active units.

After modifying the units in the design and saving, do you still have the same issue?

Hope this helps, but please let me know if I'm overlooking something.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for both replies, It's the models units that I needed to change!

You hit it spot on Innovatenate.

Hi, I cannot figure out why my "drawing from design" uses imperial when everything is set to metric?
