Can't make spline tangent

I'm creating a sketch and can't get a spline to be tangent to existing model geometry. I can make the constraint, but in no way is it tangent. I've been finding one aspect after another of this software release today that is just not ready to get real work done. The sketcher and it's constraint manager need major workflow help to be efficent as well as getting constraints to work in teh first place.

When you hover over the tangent constraint, which sketch entities are highlighted? You may consider activating the tangent handle and applying a tangent constraint between the handle and the projected sketch figure.

Can you share the file with me? I'd like to take a closer look at the file. The below screencast shows how to create a public link to download the file.

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

Here is a dropbox link to the latest version. https://www.dropbox.com/s/pmrr2rqb1q7syu6/Set%20Two.f3d?dl=0

Been waiting over twenty minutes for the latest version to show up on the dashboard sitre; the dropbox method took all of a minute. This cloud data thing also needs alot of work on AutoDesk's part.

Tried making a constraint with the tangent handle; no go.

Thank you for the file. I'm not sure what's happening with the Dashoard version. I just want to make sure that you know of the refersh button on the data panel and there are some in the dashboard as well (activity panel) show. For the dashboard, you can always refresh the web browser too.

As for the tangent issue, there seems to be an issue here. When I first create the tangent constraint, the spline appears to be tangent. If I then try to scale the tangent handle by clicking and dragging on the end points, I run into an issue. The Tangent Constraint symbol stays in the work space, but the spline is clearly not tangent anymore.

I note that if I use the dimension tool to change the scale of the tangent handle, this is not a problem. It only seems to occur when selecting and dragging the tangent handle end points after the tangent constraint has been made. I need to forward this to development for further investigation.

Does this sound like what you are running into as well?

Thank you for reporting this.

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

No, the tangent constraint never made the spline tangent and I could always drag the handle around.

I was refreshing my browser, but the data panel on my desktop kept showing a revolving circle over the file.

You're describing a known issue with the circling progress meter on the data panel. We are actively working on this issue. The issue should resolve itself after a short while. Twenty minutes is a bit extreme, I'm sorry that it is causing problems. Please let me know if it doesn't resolve itself. I'll be happy to help you look into that further. The diagnostic log files would be helpful to troubleshooting the issue if it comes down to that. See below screenshot on how to get the diagnostic log files.

As for the tangent constraint issue, please take a look at the below screencast and let me know if it helps.

If at all possible, could you record a screencast of the issue as you are seeing it?

You can download screencast for free from the below website.

See the tip, below on how to embed the videos into a forum posting. If you prefer, feel free to just post a link or send it to me directly at nathan.chandler@autodesk.com.

Thank you for the feedback and helping us to improve the product. It is really appreciated!

Do I e-mail the log file to you?

Ok, things just don't work for me like you demonstrate in either of your screencasts. Here is a link to the screencast I made that demonstrates that I am trying to make the spline tangent the projected lines of the body. I did not explicitly project these curves, but they seem to have been projected when I was placing the end points of the spline onto the geometry. I in fact get error messages when trying to get tangent contraints to take when starting this fresh, that the sketch is overconstrained.

The Screencast issue is that I get an error message when I go to preview, that the invalid code I just entered has been removed. I have no clue why teh screencast site gave me bad code to paste.

I wanted to let you know that I have logged this incident regarding the tangent constraint with the development team. A solution is currently under investigation.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
