Hi,
I'm having a problem inserting parts into an active design. When I go to Assembly > Insert, nothing shows up, even when I enter the design name. Sometime the window says "Searching...." for a while and comes up with nothing. I have multiple designs but none of the show up in the list.
Thanks!

The search should be filtering for names "containing" the search string. Perhaps you could try simplifying and/or lengthening the search string?
Are you on a wireless network or on airplay? Is there any potential for disrupted Internet connection?
Thanks,
Hi Nathan,
I'm using wifi at home. Also, the Retrieve Model list is completely blank when opened, shouldn't it be populated with designs from the dashboard?
I installed Fusion 360 on my laptop and tested it, the same thing.

The list will be blank until you give it something to look for, then it should find any matches.
Is the file that you are inserting an imported file? When importing a file into the Fusion 360 Dashboard, there are two options.
If you imported the engine component using the Upload data from my local hard drive, then the file will not show in the Retrieve Model dialog. However, if you imported the the engine component using the Import CAD data from my local hard drive, then it should show up in the Retrieve Model dialog after typing a search name.
Also, how long have you waited for the Retrieve Model dialogue to populate? Does the "Loading..." message disappear?
Thank you,
This is interesting behavoir. The dialog isn't always fast, but I have found it to be reliable. Please keep us posted on your progress. Especially, if you are having problems after re-installing.
Please note there are some instructions for a clean uninstall procedure for Fusion 360 in the below link.
Kind Regards,
Thanks for your contributions. It turns out my firewall/anti-virus was the cause of the problem, after disabling it Fusion 360 worked like a charm.
The security software is: Bitdefender Total Security 2014
System Info: Win 7 Pro, 64bit,
Thanks for following up with the solution!
Hi!
I plan to reuse few components from my previous design with Assemble/Insert function, without success.
This is my workflow:
1. Open the previous design, select the component and save with "Select Copy As" function . I see the newly created design on my F360 dashboard.
2. Create a new empty design, go to the model workspace and select Assemble/Insert function. The "Insert Model" dialog show my designs but not all (not the newly created ones).
The full reinstall did not help to me.
I'm stuck.
F360 v2.0.1149
OSX v10.9.3
You are using the correct workflow!
In a previous case, a user found that disabling the firewall enabled the Assemble > Insert command to work. Could you check to see there is interference from an anti-virus or other security program such as a firewall? A quick test may be to temporarily disable the program and then verify the impact of this on Fusion 360.
I hope this helps, please keep us posted on your progress.
Kind Regards,
Hi Nathan!
Thank you for your quick response.
I don't use any special anti-virus or security software, just the OSX builtin and my ISP router's firewalls. I disabled them temporarily, but nothing has changed.
If i create a new design from dashboard, then immediately visible in insert model dialog. If i created with copy as function, then hidden.
It seems permission problem.
I think I may have misunderstood you, but I think I have it now! I apologize for the confusion. If I'm not missing anything, you are are saying the following:
In my testing, I note that the timing between Step 6 and 7 is critical. If I immediately select Insert, the design may not appear. I believe at this point, Fusion 360 may be pushing data to the cloud. For this reason, there may be some time lag depending on the complexity of the model being pushed and Internet connection, etc.... I note that if I wait a few minutes or so and check again, the design is listed in the Insert Model dialog.
Do you see the same on your end?
Thanks,
Yesterday I went through the same steps as you wrote.
Today i tried again, and now it works! Yesterday I did not see the confirmation window, but now there is.
Than just a few seconds to appear in the insert dialog (yesterday i waited for an hour or more).
In any event, thanks for the help!
I've gone through the steps listed above. My issue be slightly different as I do not even have the option for insert under Assembly.
Did the above problem ever get solved. Just like in the picture above, I'm having the same problem. Insert option is completely missing from the assembly menu
I edit: I can, however, drag and drop the components I want into the assembly grid data panel.
At lot has changed since May of 2014. Inserting from the Data Panel is the correct way to Insert now. I note that if you right click on a design in the data panel, you can select Insert into Current Design. Now you will have a X-REF'd (referenced) or a distributed design (look for the chain icon in the Model browser).
If you do not wish the inserted design to associatively update with any changes made to the original design, then right click on the component and select Break Link.
I hope that helps.
