Thermoplastic Overmolding

Hello Guys!

i have some doubts about "how make a tehrmoplastic overmolding analysis *fill + pack*.

i need release the analysis for a lens (First Shot PMMA Clear V052i and 2nd shot PMMA Red MI-7) the second shot has a 3 direct gate for each window Note all windows should be filled at the same time.

my question is the next, is necessary make the analysis for each window?? or is possible  into the second shoot  simulate the 3 windows at the same time?

i understood that overmolding simulations  works only for two shots or material

image is attached.

Yes, you certainly should be able to simulate the second shot to all the three windows in one analysis. This is also the only way to make meaningful warpage results. The flow analysis should also be more accurate if you do the second shot in one go (at least for 3D analysis).

thanks Alex, but this analysis is in the first step, to find a potential processing window, and the gate definition is with yellow cones.

with this gate type, will be not a problem for the simulation? thats why because, it would have 3 separated parts for the 2nd shot without runner!

regards!

Three separate parts for the second shot should not be a problem

Hi,

Try to design feed system & you will come to know advantages of Overmolding analysis for warpage analysis.

No. It is not necessary to make analysis for each window

or is possible  into the second shoot  simulate the 3 windows at the same time?

Yes. Second shot will simulate 3 windows as a single part model

It is recommended to use feed sytem or model the feed system for both shots, not just with injection cones

hi madhukeshwart

currently this part is in mold design stage and i dont have the info available, for the future analysis i need consider the feed system.

thanks for your support.

yes you can do all 3 windows in 2nd shot,

Step:

selet 1st shot part and feed assign 1 shot

selet 2nd shot part & feed assign 2 shot

assign respective material form moldflow data base

for try you can model the feed as attached...
