Simulation results without modeling the feedsystem.

Hello,

Incase of flow simulations without feedsystem (Placing injection point directly in the part surface). How to co-relate the results to the gate diameter ? I mean, does AMI assumes some gate diameter while calculating ??

Thanks and regards,

KLP

There are two solutions for this problem: one is specific to 3D simulation, the second is universal but require fine surface mesh (finer than the gate diameter)

  1. In 3D got to Process Settings/Advanced Options/ Solver Parameters -Edit  then in Fill + Pack Analysis locate "Gate contact diameter" and change it from "Automatic" to "Specified" That will give you an option to modify "Gate diameter"
  2. If you have a fine mesh you can assign "injection nodes" to all the nodes within the contact surface between the gate and the cavity. Selection by circle (the second top button in the Selection segment of the Mesh ribbon might help you.

Both methods obviously do not account for any pressure drop or temperature effects in the gates themself, they only account for the gate diameter effect on flow in the cavity

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

To have more accurate results, how many nodes we should use within the gate diameter ? is there any Moldflow recommanded value ?

Regards,

KLP

To be honest I would start with modelling of the runner system and gates - it is way more important than to have accurate description of the cavity flow in the near gate region.

Anyway if you want to find the effect of the near gate flow (it might be trivial and might be not, it depends upon your case) then the size of the element should be less than radius of the gate (unless you have the specified diameter option in 3d). You can only refine the area near the gate about 1..2 diameters of the gate.
