packing/holding control

hello,

while process setting  we are giving packing value 0 sec for 11000psi

                                                                                                                 10 sec for 11000psi

                                                                                                                    0 sec for 11000psi

my doubt is why we are giving first and last step 0 sec

please explain anyone................

Hi,

this is how you create a stepped constant profile.

Then you must enter steps with a duration of 0 seconds

See:

ASMI Help >  User's Guide > Process settings > Profiles > Types of profiles

and

ASMI Help >  User's Guide > Process settings > Profiles > Packing profiles

ASMI Help has a lot of good information.

You can also get training materials at:

Hi Prabhu,

Basically this is packing profile which is given after filling phase to pack the material into cavity to reduce volumetric shinkage, sink marks etc.

The value what you type is practically incorrect. Your value is 0 sec for 11000psi

                                                                                                                              10 sec for 11000psi

                                                                                                                                0 sec for 11000psi

Reason:-

To understand the concept of this packing phase here I am considering that your injection pressure is 110000psi.

Assume that in injection molding machine to fill cavity there is some pressure generated.now after filling when packing phase comes where Packing pressure = 100% of injection pressure the value what you written in first line is correct. But  when Packing pressure = 80% of injection pressure the pressure never drop to 80% (80% of 11000psi) in 0 sec. there is some reaction time of machine. It takes microsec.to reach that 80% of injection pressure. So the first line of your value will changed to, 0.1-0.5sec for 80% of 11000psi. This 0.1-0.5sec is time delay of machine of you can say machine reaction time.

Second line of your value is clear which is holding or packing time for part until gate freezes. So second line of your value remain same.

Third line of your value is incorrect because once the gate freezes there is no effect of holding pressure on part. Giving holding pressure will consume more energy then required which is directly proportional to money. So practically pressure value go down to zero after gate freezes. So your third value will be 1-3sec for 0 psi. (This 1-3sec value is given to slower down pressure into barrel to avoid jerks on molding machine of yous can say for safety purpose.)

so final packing profile value will be

Packing profile=100% of Injection pressure.

0 sec for 11000 psi

10 sec for 11000 psi

1-3sec for 0 psi

Packing profile=80% of Injection pressure.

0.1-0.5sec for 80% of 11000 psi

10 sec for 80% of 11000 psi

1-3sec for 0 psi

This is my understanding about injection molding machine and moldflow. if anyone find it incorrect. Please reply to this post.
