Mesh Import Formats

Hi,

I am having a problem with aspect ratio... I am getting many high aspect ratios even after repairing them with the mesh repair wizard. Moreover, there are too many of them so I can't fix them manually.

So I am trying to mesh my part with another software and then import it to moldflow.

Is there a COMMON format for importing a mesh from another software ?

I tried ANSYS and Netgen, but there is no common mesh format between them and moldflow !!

Any solution ????

Hi aty02 !!

You can try with other software to mesh part and the export the mesh with a compatible extension with moldflow,

for example im using ANSA and after review the quality mesh (Aspec Ratio, Interference, Overlaps, etc) i export the mesh as  .nas (NASTRAN)!

please see below the ext availables to be imported in MF

Hi aty02,

I cannot give you an extensive answer. But from one of my posts I know that harald.goetz here in the community also uses Netgen for meshing and he seems to me to be a quite advanced user. According to his post, he used the .bdf and .nas file format for the transfer of a surface mesh into Moldflow.

You can find the post I am refering to here:

Hope this helps, regards,
Max

Hi

You can mesh in 3rd party software and export the file as .nas and can be imported into moldflow without any trouble

Hi,

You can use Hypermesh to mesh your part, you have to create your mesh using NASTRAN Profile in Hypermesh.

You have to select Minimal Normalized after meshing / before correcting mesh.

This setup will give you the aspect ratio values would be closer to our Moldflow mesh. Always export as *.nas format while exporting from Hypermesh.

Please find the attached ppt for your reference how to do these changes in HM. Thank you
