Injection Compression Problems

Good Morning all,

I am wondering if anyone has much experience with the injection compression module of Moldflow? I am running a simple simulation with a plate and I seem to be having two problems:

1). I can't fill the part beyond 100% of fill (I set the V/P switchover to 103%)

2). The press continues to displace beyond the set distances in the solver parameters

Any help would be very welcome.

Thanks

Hi,
I did a run in Autodesk Moldflow Insight 2011, on a simple plate with Generic PP and it converges as expected.
The compression direction is in Z axis.
The triangle elements should have properties "Compression surface"

1) If part cannot be filled

Did you uncheck: "Switch-over to pressure control if 100% weight reached"
If this option is selected, the analysis will automatically switch from velocity control to pressure control
when 100% of the target weight of the part has been injected into the mold.
This means a switch over can happen too early and too less melt might go into cavity and cavity will not be filled.
Uncheck, and see if switchover V/P103/ will fill.
You might need to move switchover and increase melt volume to be injected into cavity
depending on material characteristic, material family, volumetric shrinkage.

Clamp force cap might be too low and force to press cannot fill part.
Compression speed might be too low.

2) "Press Open distance" is the distance to be compressed. When this is reached you will get message:
"Mold halves have closed completely.
No further press displacement will occur and press speed will remain zero. "
The table is to set compression speed vs. distance.

If you supply your model I can have a closer look.

Regards,
Berndt

Norb,

Thanks for the response. I had figured out that I had not changed the properties to compression surface. Solved all the problems.

Thanks,

Erik
