How to run cooling Analysis for 2K or Over moulidng

Hi,

One of my customer wants cool analysis as per their mold design for 2K molds

Kindly advise  how to do that in sequential overmoulding

Thanks

Regards

KM

Sir,

It is not possible currenlty, in future we may expect same options.

Hello KM!

As mentioned by Madhu, cool analysis for 2K process is not available in ASMI. But Still you can use Cool analysis for each part as an individual analysis to identify the hotspots in the part with your proposed cooling layout.

Thanks,

Ethaya.

Another approximation is to use a 3d mesh, consider the first shot as a plastic 3d insert, and the second shot as the 3d part to fill (Using the cooling system of the second shot).

No options are near to real...

1. We may know what is delay between the shots, which may decide pre-temperature for 1st part, which will be insert for 2nd shot.

2. We may need to assume some pre-temperarture for 1st shot part ,if we are doing cooling analysis for 2nd shot assuming 1st shot part as a insert.

3. Effect of differential cooling on 1st shot will not bce aptured for warpage. So warpage results alone for 2nd shot with insert will not be accurate.

4. Better If we are using MTC(mold temperature controller), No need to carry out cooling analysis.

madhukeshwart, please how would you behave if a customer ask you to perform an analysis to a 2k part?
will you run an overmolding analysis, a cooling of the first part (to see hotspots of the first part) and a cooling of the second part (to see hotspots of the second part) ?
Or will you use mold temperature controller?
May you please tell us some advices?
Thanks

How would you behave if a customer ask you to perform an analysis to a 2k part?

1. Most of our customer with 2k mold moldflow request, are very well aware about the moldflow limitation.

2. Usually we make it clear during quotation or prelimimary discussion with new customer.

3. Mostly 2 k parts are very small and effect of differential cooling are very less.

4. We make them understand using  MTC with target mold tempearture holds good, without cooling simulation.

will you run an overmolding analysis, a cooling of the first part (to see hotspots of the first part) and a cooling of the second part (to see hotspots of the second part) ?

we never tried approximate option, till now we never such requirement.

Or will you use mold temperature controller?

Mostly our customers are using.

May you please tell us some advices?

Better to make customer understand. As you sugggested is fine to find hot spot.

Mostly our customers will come with tool layout to validate and feed system optimisation in 1st phase.

In 2nd phase they come with cooling configuration to validate, cooling system effect on warpage. Then we educate the limitation of cooling in 2k parts.
