Tube Chassis Mesh Failure

Can anyone advise me on a meshing scheme which will work well with a model that has a high ratio of surface area to volume? I am attempting to find the modes of a chassis of welded tubes. For simplicities sake I have excluded modeling the "welds" but the chassis has been designed in frame generator and then shrinkwraped into a single solid part as a union of all the notched and mitered tubes.

I keep having failures as the tubes have wall thicknesses as small as 0.035 inches but lengths of 12 or more inches.

you can use plate elements for meshing
