Non-linear fabric (tension-only) model

Hello All,

I am new to Autodesk Simulation and am hoping to model an inflatable structure. I would expect something like a non-linear shell or membrane element that can support only (or predominantly) tension to work, but haven't been able to find anything of the sort in the materials available in Simulation. The von Mises materials assume symmetric behavior in tension and compression.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ben

Hi Ben,

I think you just need to set the element type to membrane. I know that it has 0 bending, and it is unlikely that you will be able to put it into compression.

Of course, your analysis type needs to be MES in order to model an inflated structure.
