Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2012 and Autodesk Simulation Multiphysics 2012 are the new names for the 2012 version of "Autodesk Algor Simulation 2011". The bundles are also different from 2011. And of course, lots of other enhancements in 2012 with the ribbon interface being the biggest change.

Otherwise, the software is the same.

The software is essentially the same. (Maybe the downloads are different sizes since Mechanical does not need some of the files that Multiphysics has, but otherwise it is one and the same.)

It is the license file that controls what you can access. So if you have a license for Mechanical, you will not be able to run any analysis types unique to Multiphysics. If you have a license for Multiphysics, that includes all of the software, so you do not need to change installations.

However, if you have a Multiphysics license but downloaded and installed the Mechanical, then you need to uninstall Mechanical and install Multiphysics.
