Drop Test

I want to know whether there is a way to measure deformation relative to the original shape. When i check deformation it just refers to the actual drop distance, which is is meaningless....

The strain is the measure of deformation. It seems that you are talking about displacement here regarding to the drop distance.

The strain is a good solution, as qzhu mentioned. Here are a couple of other things that may be helpful in certain circumstances.

  1. Create a custom calculation to convert the strain to a displacement. ("Results Contours > Other Results > Custom Results")
  2. Graph the displacement of two points and choose to plot the "Range" between the results; that is, the difference between the result at one node and another node. See the section "Modify Graphs" on the page "Help > Autodesk Simulation > Results > Results Environment > Graph Results of Analyses".
  3. Use the "Tools > Measure" command and manually measure the distance between chosen nodes. Please check whether the "Results Contours > Displacement > Show Displaced > Displaced Options > Scale factor" affects the measurement or not. In other words, does a scale factor of 2 make the measured distance twice the actual amount? (actually, original dimension + 2 * deformation)
