Automation?

Is there any way to automate algor?

Is there a COM interface?, or any kind of scripting interface?, or an SDK?

What about the .fem file format - is there any information on that?

Thanks

Patrick,

The Algor software does have an API. The documentation for this has been removed from the Autodesk Algor Simulation 2010 and 2011 software releases. This documentation is available from previous versions of Algor software (23.1 and older), which provides examples for accessing Algor's FoxPro 2.0 database files, as well as using EAGLE (Algor's programming language). The FEM file format was never documented for public access, although there was meshing and result viewing API access routines. The EAGLE programming language is old and difficult. There presently is not a macro recording function within the Autodesk Algor Simulation interface. Having stated these limitations, perhaps if you contact Algor's technical support, I can learn details of what you would like to accomplish and provide insite on how you can use your programming language to improve your automation. The technical support e-mail address is as follows (without the spaces between characters, which are needed so the forum does not strip the address from the post): a e i n b o x @ a u t o d e s k . c o m

It depends what knind of automation you want to do.  Multiple independent runs or multiple dependecy runs.

For former, set up models first, then using DOS batch file or Python script to call Algor decoder and processor in the row, we did this for test automation for thousands of Algor archieved models.

Thanks Pipe,
I need to draw a model from matlab, I don't have any knowlege on Algor's API functions.
where can I find some guide on API? There is no sdk?
Is it possible to make an script file?

I searched some similar topics in this forum,

It seems that API has been discontinued since 2009; well that's strange and unfortunaate.
Is there a workaround for me? I want to translate a sample that is generated in matlab into algor.
I was counting on API.
Regards

My suggestion would be to look at the "File > Open" command and the types of files that Simulation can open, as listed under the "Files of type" drop-down. If Matlab can output your geometry to one of those formats, then you can get that geometry into Simulation.

John's recommendation is the most appropriate.  I suggest to export the model from your software package to possess the NASTRAN input deck format, which can then be imported into Simulation (Algor).  Have you checked this file format?

Actually I am new to that file format,

In abaqus, one can generate a .py file to autmate the process of model generation in FEA software;

I should study about NASTRAN file formats and their compabilities.
Thanks for the replies, they were very helpful to me.
But I have also figured out another solution and that is using Inventor's API to generate model and then send it to Algor.

I am very new to Inventor and it doesn't seem to be supporting andy 2D fem simulation.

Is it possible to define a 2d object in Inventor and then send it to Algor?

Nastran DAT input files will come very handy in automation, I hope every thing goes fine.

Thanks PipePakPat.
