What is Quilt Geometry

Can anyone please tell me the meaning of the following message and what to do in this situation:

PTC Granite kernel cannot process the quilt geometry.

Launcher has deteceted quilt(s) in the following part documents(s):

......

Please make the model either 2D or 3D, or change pro/mechanica launcher to launch into Autodesk simulation cfd 2014

The message is just informing you that there are surface patches (quilts) somewhere in the assembly.  There are 2 methods of launching geometry from ProE into Autodesk CFD and the method you are using (we call it granite) supports only solid geometry, not surface patches.  Many times the surface patches are only there as means to trim solids and create the solid geometry, so this warning is just there to make sure you don’t intend to use the surface patches as part of the analysis model.

If you click yes to continue, your solid geometry model should come over fine, but any surface patches will not be a part of the simulation model.

If your model is a 2D surface model or you intend to make use of surface patches as part of the simulation model, then you will have to switch over to the less frequently used Pro/Mechanica launcher.

Hope this helps,
