Yes we still use 2^n cores for our solver.
Hyperthreading will not yield any performance boost for our solvers
I have not seen situations where having more cores causes the mesher to be slower. The one exception to this is if you are comparing a machine that has a faster 4core (for exmaple @3.0Ghz) compared to some of the newer 8core cpus (that could have cores @ 2.2Ghz) in a case like this since meshing is dominant to 1 core, the performance loss of 3Ghz to 2.2Gh will cause a slower meshing process.

Is multithread meshing (ie with multiple core) really any beneficial? Also, in 2014, can we use it when we have extruded meshes?
