CFD surface wave effects

We have a requriement to analyse vessel motions at sea.  Crane lifts and or catenary analysis for deployment or recovery of products from a floating vessel.  Can Autodesk CFD help in this

one particular problem is a project we have of lifting a wind turbine from a floating ship (the crane is on the ship as well), and landing it on a fixed structure such as an offshore wind turbine foundation

Can autodesk CFD help in this.  a sub contractro we have been using uses AQWA to determine these motions

Hi John,

This is a very complex problem and AQWA and other tools similar to it which are industry specific tools are going to be vastly superior in this type of anlaysis.

One aspect which is going to be crucial to your analysis is going to be the modeling of the ship buoyancy properties. We currently don't have implemented a means to assign a center of mass for an object such that the ship could be modeled as a lump mass.  This means that the buoyancy properties would be difficult to model.  So, to account for the motion of a ship which is probably morred during this type of operation would not be feasible.

Best regards,

Royce
