Hello, I was trying to do the Free Surface tutorial, but I cant find where to set up the HOF in the initial conditions.

Thanks

Hello,.

If you go into the Initial Conditions part and select any of the volumes that are already 100% fluid, you will able to assign HOF to them

Ok, now I see what I was doing, In the initial conditions I was selecting the surfaces and then trying to apply the HOF, But I have to select the volume tool instead of surfaces.

Thanks for your help.

Good Day Mingyar

Sorry to hijack this thread but we are interested in conducting free surface simulations as in the link below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNKHf937Qt0 (I assume you are attempting to do a similar tutorial)

What version of Simulation CFD do you require to do this?

Thanks for the reply

are you using the base level of CFD 2014?

On the Autodesk website there are three options.

Simulation CFD 2014

Simulation CFD Advanced 2014

Simulation CFD Motion 2014

I would like to make sure what the correct version would be before continuing.

Thanks for the quick response.  Do you know what the lowest level of CFD 2014 can be used for the free surface simulation?

We are not interested in simulating mechanical parts in motion (fans, pumps ect.) and CFD Motion might be out of our budget.

Im not sure and its not on this link http://www.autodesk.com/products/autodesk-simulation-family/compare/cfd-products

But maybe you can download the 30 day free trial of the basic one and see if you have the free surface option.

Thanks for all the help!

I might have to download the basic version to see, unless someone from Autodesk can let me know.

Quick update for you guys.

The 'Free Surface' functionality in CFD 2014 requires the Advanced Solver.

but when i setting in CFD 2014 it always have some problem

like:have some fault or haven't the wave

so can you teach me how can I setting and the result is correct

Hi,

Would you mind sharing the CFZ on here?

Could you also be a little more specific about the error or issue you are seeing?

Kind regards

Jon

thanks your reply first

here i share my data

the model is the same with simulation TV's model

but I cann't get the some solve

I think maybe have some setting is wrong

so, can you teach me how can I set the correct setting

thank you !

Hi,

You also need to model the air above the water.

As a material it will be assigned water although it will not be assigned a Height of Fluid Initial Condition so it will actually be treated as air once you start the analysis.

It is highly likely that you will need a far finer mesh - a uniform mesh is ideal here.

Kind regards,

Jon

I just wanted to clarify one thing that Jon said.

The space above the free surface isn't actually air or any fluid. It is technically a void in space where no fluid occupies.  This is good to keep in mind because this isn't a multi fluid solver just a free surface solver.
