Grainy shadows when rendering

I have just recently begun toying around with the 3ds Max 2015, and so far it's going well, however I seem to have some issues with the shadows (which is why I'm coming to you guys).

In the Perspective View Port, it looks fine and the shadow is gradient (not nice-looking but gradient), however when I render it as a picture the shadow turns grainy.

The only changes I've done to rendering is to change the Renderer (both Production and ActiveShade) to mental ray, and to change the light-source to mental ray.

I've thrown in the .max-file in case anyone would care to have a look see 🙂

Thanks in advance for any help :]

Hi. Haven't opened your file, but a quick guess would to set the shadow type to "Raytrace".

Hope it helps.
