Soil loading on a cylindrical reinforced concrete structure

Hello,

I am attempting to model an underground cylindrical reinforced conrete  water retaining structure. I am unable to apply a soil load to the outside of the cylinder. I have done a simpler example with a square structure, however when I complicate the problem and make it a cylinder I am unable to get get the soil load to work. To build the strucutre I made the circular floor slab and then extruded the walls up from a circle drawn at the same level as the floor slab. (PLease see the attached file to see exactly)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, or if your feeling generous a tutorial for tihe initial stages would be really useful.
