RC Column verification: Design combination EC8

1.00SPE_NEW14 (A)( SEIS. Joint X + )

 

How does one interprete the term of the design combination above, used in RC Column design with seismic dispositions under EC8, particularly the (SEIS. Joint X+) portion?

It means:

 

from combination   1.00SPE_NEW14

 

on level  (A) - top of column

 

It is a set of additional forces generated by the analysis of the joint (capacity in beams connected to this node=joint required for the seismic capacity calculations of columns with respect tothe capacity of columns (currently calculated and the top if one exists) - I hope you can understand :-) SEIS. Joint

 

in direction  X

 

Capacity calculated for positive moment +

Can ( SEIS. Joint X + ) be de-activated even with seismic dispositions checked? It seems to cause very high moments in the column. I know it is a requirement of some codes, but would like to be able to see what is required from purely design considerations vis-a-vis capacity design considerations.

The only way is to calculate the column before calculations of beams adjoining to the node above the column. There will be no results from beams so a warning will appear as on jpg below (No. 2 and 3). The rest of seismic analysis should be done.
