RC Column Design

Hello,
I am playing with RC column design and struggling with workflow. What is the correct workflow? I want to select a number of columns, design them, and then click on a column on the model and see the design output.
I get messages about basic load cases even though I have set up manual combinations etc. It is all a bit "hit and miss" at the moment.
Any advice welcomed.
