Openign a STAAD file with Robot

I am trying to open a STAAD *.std file with Robot.

Robot creates an str file, when I open the file I get a warning of premture end to file, the file only includes the node locations and beam connectivity and supports.  It stops at section properties.

When I view the *.str file the last line is

"PROperties"

Why is Robot not taking in the section properties?

Hello,

what sections are used in STAAD model?

Can you attach the STAAD file where you observe such effects?

Hi,

Im using British Sections, UB's, UC's CHS'.

I've tried several of the models from the STAAD example manual, I've attached Example 1, a simple plane frame with UC and EA sections.  Though the effect happens with every file I've tried.  The*.str file coming to an abrupt stop just at the start of the section properties.

If i export a CIS/2 file from STAAD and open it with Robot it appears to work OK but obviously it would be better to be able to open the file direct.

I've attached the STD file, I've had to rename the file extension to *.doc (it should be *.std)

Thanks

Dave

Hello,

you have attached Robot file instead of the STAAD one.

Hello,

the effect you observe (*.str file broken at section properties) suggest that you use RSA 2010 or RSA 2011 without the latest service packs.

When installing Service Pack 2 or higher to RSA 2011 the complete STR file will be generated.

Unfortunately sections RA UA25X25X3 and other equal leg angles will not be recognized in STAAD file and they will be reported in STR as MISSING.

The simplest solution is to modify STAAD file and replace RA UA25X25X3 by ST UA25X25X3 (analogously for other equal leg angles) - such modified model attached.

The more general solution is to complete or modify the file CStToRob.xml which contains mapping of sections between STAAD and Robot. This file can be found in the following folder:

Win XP

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Structural\Common Data\2011\Data\Other\

Win Vista or Win 7

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Structural\Common Data\2011\Data\Other\

Hello,

Then I export RSAP 2012 model to STR, everything goes well, but it's imposible to open that STR file with same RSTA 2012 -the RSTA is crashing.

Maybe you can say, what version to use to prevent from that or what to modify in STR?

It may be related to Job Preferences settings different when saving STR text file from default job preferences when trying to open it. STR file does not keep information related to job preferences appriate for it (binary RTD file does).

It may result in not finding sections and materials used in STR in section and material databases set in job preferences.

Moreover STR text files are language-dependent so files saved in some language cannot be opened after changing the language to another.

If above info will not help please attach your STR file (compress to ZIP).

Please can you shed more light on how to achieve this completion or modification being suggested below. I was able to locate the .xml file but could not find how to go about the modification.
