I have an I-beam created from shell elements and loaded as on a picture. When trying to obtain bending moments from maps feature I can't get anything even vaguely similar to qL^2/8, no matter which DIRECTION or "xx/yy/xy" I choose (let alone the ones I think that are appropriate). What am I missing?
Please check your model. You are given internal moments in your shell based model. That model does not give overall moments for your beam described using shell elements. Check instead the stress level in flanges compared to sigma = M/W where M=q L2/8 .
