How to connect plates with I column

Hi

Thanks for reading my post, i have attached my model which consist of a number of plates and a HEB column. It seems like the vertical plates are connection to the horizontal plate but the vertical one are not connected to the column. I have placed the vertical plates by specifying its position by coordinates. And the column was placed by linking it to a node also placed by coordinate. It seems like that the vertical plate is NOT connected to the column but only to the footplate. Can any body help me ?!!!

thx

I'm sorry to say but the assumption you made creating your model is wrong. Bar elements do not have real sizes and are represented by 'lines' that have assigned properties (material, cross sectional area etc.). They are 'linked' to surfaces (panels) only by common nodes that have to be created along these 'lines'. In your case instead of using a bar element you should create 3 vertical panels that represent two flanges and web of the HEB profile instead.
