Friction Support and non-Convergence Help

Hi,

I'm trying to model an underground tunnel with temperature loadings and support with friction property and uplift condition. Friction support is applied at the base.

The problem is it cannot reach convergence.

I'm pretty sure that the non-convergence is not due to the uplift condition because it is not converging with selfweight load case alone. Any issues with the friction support?

And, is it possible to apply friction support at the roof slab (released in the vertical direction and friction-type condition at vertical direction)?

I'm using RSAP 2014 version. any inputs are appreciated.

Thanks!

Maybe try to lower the uplift in order to see if you obtain convergence for a smaller value. If it is, then you will need to have tension element.

I tried removing the uplift condition (changed UZ+ to None) and it still does not reach convergence. And it also does not converge with self weight load case. I there something wrong with the friction assignment?

on non-linear parameters , mark the " matrix update after each iteration" box.
