Equivalent static analysis.

Hi again,

When using equivalent static analysis for EQ to AS1170.4, why can't you use the results in a combination with non linearity (ie a non-linear combination, or one that includes non-linear member properties i.e. tension only)?

I'm thinking that the equivalent static analysis does not work correctly for models with non-linear members.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,

you are right - components from equivalent static analysis are ignored in non-linear combinations :(.

Escalated to dev team. I will notify you after change.

Thanks

It's important because you obviously need to add the lateral load to the gravity cases.  It's a bit useless otherwise.
