View Range

In a project consisting of wood framing (platform framed), how does one set
the view range? I'm not sure if I'm the sawme as other structural engineers,
but in AutoCAD, I set up my framing plans as if I'm doing a structural
observation. IOW, if I'm going to go to the jobsite to look at the second
floor framing, I'm observing from the first floor before the ceiling is
applied. In that case, the first floor walls are solid, I can see the beams
and floor joists and posts buried in the first floor walls. The second floor
plan appears in hidden lines because the location of the beams are dependent
on the walls above.

For illustrative purposes, let's say the top plate is at +8'-1" which is a
defined level 2. The floor joists are 2x12s which are 11-1/4" deep and the
floor sheathing is 3/4" thick. The top of the first floor headers are at
6'-8" above the slab (level 1) which is at +0'-0". I want to see the first
floor headers, the floor joists on the second floor and the beams supporting
the floor joist all in one view creatively called the Second Floor Framing
Plan.

How do I make this happen in Revit? It almost sounds like I'm talking about
a "reflected framing plan", which I cannot do in Revit Structure.

TIA,

Try this: Copy and rename the 'structural plan view' style to 'structural
plan view UP' or some other "creative" name 🙂
Then, in that new style, set the view direction to UP. Then apply those
view settings to your plan.

Not an expert in any sense of the word, but hth,

Hi Bill,

I am having the same dilema here with how a second floor framing plan shows main floor walls including headers and second floor joists and beams supporting them. Have you had a success in making it work? Please advise. Also if you could send me some of drawing samples, that will be very helpful.

Thanks,

Bernad

I need to revive this thread because I need some help as well and I've attached a file for as well.  Same as Bill Allen who started the post, I have a Wood Floor Framing Plan and a Wood Bearing Wall/Header Plan.  SEPERATE...

What I'm trying to do is set the View Range so that I can combine the 2 plans.  Currently if I move the cut plane I can't see the joist framing or the window doors.  one or the other.  Is it possible to set it up to have these the same.

I was able to do it forcing the headers of the doors and windows up into the cut plane but that's just not proper.

I was able to get it to the point I have attached that combines the 2 Views.  Problem with Families though.

The is for the center hallway.

The Open Web Joist Family shows and the 2x8 Dimension Lumber does not show.  If I go to the 3d view select the beam system and change it to the Open Web Joist, K-Series Joists.. it shows.  If I change it to a W-Shaped steel, C-Shaped Steel, or back to the 2x8 wood it doesn't show.
