Tagging Columns...

In AutoCAD we tag our columns with a line coming off of the column at a 45 degree angle. On top of that line we have the size called out. Now in Revit Structural I see an option to tag at 45 degrees but without the line. Do I have to manually draw each line? There must be a better way.

Thanks Sage

Turn on the leader check box on the option bar but it might not be what you
want. I find the line in the wrong place.

When I turn the leader funtion on it just places the Column tag at a 45 degree angle at the end of the leader. Also the leader looks to be a totally different angle.

I'd like the column text on top of a 45 degree line coming from the column. Isn't this typical labeling? Revit must do this?

Thanks

As it has been almost 10 years since you posted this, did you ever find a solution to this problem?  I just started using Revit, if I find a solution I will post it here.

While it's not a completely automatic process, you could edit the tag family and rotate the label 45 degrees, place a detail line underneath it to act as a leader, and then turn the leader off. Would this achieve what you are looking for?

This is basically what I did, though the 45 degree line has to be drawn and copied as a detail line in the view, not the tag itself, which is a little bit sloppy and I can see it leading to difficulty maintaining consistency down the road.  It seems like this is something Autodesk would have figured out by now?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, as you are seeing, at the current time there would be manual work involved to achieve this. If you would like to see the functionality enhanced in the future, I would suggest providing comments and a business case as to why this is important to your firm at http://www.autodesk.com/feedback.

I created a column tag family that has a line already in place, and visiblity tags to set quadrant position  - it sort of works - make it easier than drawing the model line.

If you're interested I can dig up the family.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would be interested in the family if you could post it.

Thanks Katie, I will do that.  I understand that Revit is a relatively new program and these things will improve over time, I'm just surprised that this specific tag hasn't apparently come up that much.

I would also be interested in taking a look at this family you created.  I tried to make a tag like this gave up in defeat.  My problem was that when placing the tag it places the text and the line away from the column.

I can't take the credit for the idea, as it came from another forum.

Anyway, here's the tag.  Remember it's  a work in progress.
