Joining materials in a face based family to a structural floor

I have a face based trench drain family I made that is simply a void and a frame made with a swept angle profile. I added an extrusion to create the thickend slab around the drain. I set up material parameters for the thickened slab extrusion but I can't get it to join with the structural floor it is placed on. I want it to become part of the slab and not show as a separate piece.

Am I missing something? I can't seem to get it to join. When I try to make it join I get an error saying "Can't cut joined element"

Because the Category of your family is Structural Foundations, by default, all geometry in the family will cut the slab, which is not what you are trying to do.

Try changing the Category to “Generic Model”.  I did that to your family, and the behavior seems to be closer to what you are expecting.

Thanks, that did the trick.

I forgot I changed it to foundation.
