Now that in Revit 2013 you have access to all disciplines, what is the real difference between making a Floor Plan and making a Structural Plan? I just made both and besides placing them in separate “folders”, the settings look pretty much the same.
If the difference is the Analytical content… is making a Floor Plan and turning on the Analytical options in the VG the same as making a Structural Plan? If it is so you can specify different VT’s, then there should be a Mechanical Plans, Electrical Plans, etc… options too.

You are correct that the different plan types and that they display in different nodes in the Project Browser.
You can also apply a different View Templates to regular Floor Plans and Structural Floor plans. Structural Floor Plan types also allow you to set the view direction up or down.
If your Structural Floor Plans are the same as your regular Floor Plans, you may want to check which view templates are set for the each, and make sure they are different.
Structural Views predate View Types (new for r2013) which allow you to control much of this for Views and have different types for all kinds of views.

So, for the most part, it sounds like besides the “Up-Down” option, Floor plans and Structural plans are the same. With the View Templates, you can then specify a Structural VT that has the Analytical content turned on (and likewise off for a Architectural Floor Plan).
