Columns, Revit is incomplete

The AISC Handbook tabulates WT, double angles, and single angles as columns.
WT and double angles go way back. Single angles were tabuilated as column
struts in the first edition of the LFRD manual. Whay can't these shapes be
offered in the Revit structural column families?

There are times when these shapes are useful as columns. I am presently
trying to reinforce a timber tower with these shapes making vertical trusses
from these shapes. In Revit I can only use these shapes as braces or beams.
The problem I am having the WT vertical braces do not stay put like my
timber columns do. The single angle web braces do not attach to the vertical
WT braces as neatly as they do to structural beams and columns. Adding these
shapes to column families would make them easier to work with. I modeled the
timber tower in a day. I'm spending more time than that fixing misbehaved
braces. It's frustrating. Why can't Autodesk provide column family shapes
tabulated in the steel manual?

I think you will what you are supplied with in the library is a bonus, the idea is to build your own library.

Its even harder in Australia where the steelwork is different from the States we have to build most of our own family's.

If the shapes are not standard, I would agree. These are in the US standard
steel handbook. Having everyone make their own familes of standard shapes
makes no sense.

Hi,
I have just started using Revit structure 2008 and am also facing the same problem related to vertical bracing which i am doing here in structural column. Not only the bracing done is not neat but also there is no family template on which a structural column family can be based. I think that this is a serious lag in the software or is there a way out for this that i am missing?

I an not believe that there is no easy way to do this. All the data for L, T C shapes are already in this program under the framing - beams family and it can not be loaded into the column family. You got to be kidding me? Please someone help. I refuse to believe that it must be crated from scratch. Need to know how to use an angle shape or T shape for columns?

Is there any place where you can download column families with steel shape standarts you need?
