Column Family Height Parameter/Variable

In a column family I'd like to use the height of column in a parameter's
formula. Since columns are contrained to Lower and Upper Ref Levels, there
isn't a parameter for the height. I've tried adding a reference planes
locked to the Ref Levels, but trying to add a parameter over-constrains.
I've tried using "Upper Ref Level" in the formula, but that wasn't
recognized. Is there something hidden I can use for the height of the
column?

What I'm trying to create is a metal stud with punchouts, so need to array
punchouts based on height of column. I succesfully did it with a joist
(beam family) using the "Length" parameter.

Thanks,
Phil

Trying to do something similar to this.
Anyone have an idea on how to extract the height of a column to use within family as a parameter?

add an instance dimension parameter height to your column

It will overconstrain the model if you make a parameter from a dimension between the upper and lower reference levels.

If you create a new reference plane under the "upper level" of the column family and create a new parameter for height you can manipulate it within a project from here without the top constraint option working. This does break the column family in that sense but it works well for nested column families.

I have not found a way to make this a reporting parameter in a project when it is a nested family. Any ideas?
