Central file size

Why is a central file so much bigger than a local file?

We have a central file that is 75MB, and the local files are 20MB.

As a test, we detached from central and re-saved the file and it too became
20MB.

Found this discussion that sheds some light.

Does the "compress file" option serve the same purpose?

It will help, not be a cure all. We periodically purge the file, and save it to another name, then save again to the original name. Although this is tome consuming, we have gotten as much as 90 to 100 meg out of a central file's size.

What is that 90 to 100 meg as a percentage of the file size?
(How big is the file before you do this procedure/)

Joe,

I'm an architect, our file sizes tend to be larger. We had one file in the 285 meg range, and after the purge, etc. it came down to 175 meg. I've heard of even larger deltas if the "team" working on the file never purgers, or does any other type of model management.
