Just wondering if anyone knows a way in the family editor to select all the visible solids without selecting voids? I like to use a manufacturer's models when I can, but I usually don't want any of the complex geometry to show up in plan view (I insert a simplified 2D block instead). The problem is, some of these manufacturer models are extremely detailed and its a challenge to even locate all the tiny solid extrusions in their models. If you select everything, you also select all the tiny voids, and since solids and voids are both classified as "other" in the filter, there are no visibility options until you deselect all the voids.
Unfortunately, not. Model content creators of small pieces have to learn to simplify those families and learn that voids increase the size of the family and affect performance. Specially in MEP families, the attention must be focused on getting connectors to work properly, entering all the important text data, getting the flows to report correctly, etc. But sometimes the attention is on making little, tiny voids and extrusions.
Yeah, unless the geometry belongs to a Subcategory, the selection filter treats everything as "Other". But, in off-chance it helps, you can isolate the unattached Voids by turning off the Model Categories under V/G. (You must turn off the specific Categories; disabling the "Show model categories in this View" does not work.)
