Revit MEP Connection count

Can Revit MEP count the number of connections you make to ducts?   For instance, if I were to have 2 people creating a duct layout for the same building; I would want to know which person has the lowest number of connections for the ductwork.  What I'm looking for is if Revit would be able to handle cost optimization.  The number of ductwork/connections you put in costs money and I'm looking to avoid unnecessary costs.

Why not just count the Duct segments? You could create a Ducts Schedule and include only the Count field, which should report exactly half of the Duct connections since I believe it is not possible to connect Duct Accessories or Duct Fittings directly to each other.

If two designers are working on the same building (and the same Project File), you could have each user draw his layout for each area (if you wish to perform such an analysis per area) on a Design Option Option Set, each as a different Option. Then, you can create separate Ducts Schedules specific to each Design Option for comparison, then opt to make the more efficient Option as "Primary", and then choose "Accept Primary".
